Tiraki means Clearing of the Sky

In the bush on Berghan Point, above Doubtless Bay in the Far North of Aotearoa. The blue flag in the map below is Tiraki
Tiraki is 3 hectare of regenerating and virgin native bush. On arrival there were heaps of pest plants, including 25 huge gums and 10 large blackwoods, along with pampas grass, gorse and other foreign invaders. Job number one.
Berghan Point has over 400 pairs of North Island brown kiwi. We have several pairs living on Tiraki heard every night. Such a lovely sound.

Tiraki had been cleared for farm land so many of the trees that the birds used for food and shelter are gone. We plan to reforest Tiraki to turn the clock back.
